Christabel's Sustainability Update - June 2020
June has been a huge month for products, restock, brand new products, sourcing items, and trying new suppliers so what we are using has been a massive priority. Ethical sourcing is at the forefront of my mind in every purchase, where it is made, can we see the supply chain, what certifications are credited to the factory and who are we investing in.
After this, we focus on what it is made of, what we are investing in, putting against our skin and taking from the earth. As cotton is a natural product and because of the way it is designed and manufactured into clothing, it has many advantages, such as its ability to control moisture, insulate, be super comfy and it is also hypoallergenic, weatherproof and very durable. Most chemical fibers are petroleum based, which means they come from non-renewable resources. Cotton however, is sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable, making it an excellent choice as an environmentally-friendly fiber throughout its entire product life cycle. We plan to correct our use of fabrics by focusing on sustainable fabrics with minimal impact on the environment, preferably organic where we can.
With our plans in 2020 to manufacture all garments we will have control over product, fabric and fabric sourcing, by controlling our supply chain not only protecting those involved, choosing to invest in ethical sourcing we can see directly from the mills where our fabrics are grown, created and how they come to life in design. Stay tuned here for more updates on that!! To move forward, we have to first look back. We took stock of what we have across all of our products, their fabric breakdown to see exactly where we are and how we want to progress.
As you can see we are moving in the right direction, however our goal for 2020 is to maintain cotton dominant products, and make a move to organic materials for sustainable production and maximum comfort for our customers. Stay tuned every month for an update on materials used and where we are headed.
